A Careful Study on the Dynamics of Code-Switching (Data Gathering)

How important is the research?

The dominating prominence of English Language has established its own legacy for more than 50 years through the American Colonial rule. The Philippines, on the other hand, which has a population of more than 70, 000, 000 prides itself to be one of the largest speaking countries in the world. As it is a fact, that English is the language used in business and higher education, it is therefore imperative for us to safeguard the earned national level of proficiency we have. Now, by the influx of code-switching; such as, Taglish, Bislish, and other mixed dialects, serves as a precursor of the coming decline of the Philippine proficiency in both English and Bisaya. The insertion of this mixed language, to be isolated in its own right, would pose a greater threat on our linguistic competence in terms of expertise on both.

Furthermore, when practice becomes virtual and common, we are used to forget the other and replace it with new linguistic data (this assumption is even aligned with Piaget's theory of Assimilation-Accommodation)

The significance of English language cannot be undervalued nor overstated,

"English is dominant in business, government, the legal system, medicine, and the sciences and as a medium of instruction. Filipinos prefer textbooks for subjects like calculus, physics, chemistry, biology, etc., written in English rather than Filipino"

The economic growth and flourish of business largely depends on our communication skills. Also, we cannot expand the horizon of our tradings with other nations without becoming an expert in English Communication. Thus, it is necessary that we become able to maintain the proficiency we have in English.
