Helping the TCC or Helping for Self-Gain?

Talisay City, CEBUThe Freeman reported last week, May 29, 2017, that the House Bill of Representatives already made a formal approval with respect to the integration of Talisay City College into Talisay City State College. (Here is the softcopy of the house bill sponsored by Ann K. Hofer and Anthony V. Gullas Jr. HOUSE BILL NO. 5147)

Gullas explains what this amendment bill is all about:

“This bill seeks to clarify confusion, settle all uncertainties and avoid controversies that may arise in the conversion of the Talisay City College to Talisay City State College”

Having those things in mind, it is likely possible that, not many days from now, TCC shall probably get off its ground with its new institutional title—TALISAY CITY STATE COLLEGE—a pride which every student in TCC has long been waiting for of its realization.

Apparently, only a few among the myriads of students in TCC have taken pride of their school due to the low-point altitude of its institutional status. It is argued, however, that, ever since the former President Ramos had left TCC, the institution, itself, has been heavily underrated due to its sluggish climb towards the hierarchical rung of development. Leadership incompetence and lack of military strictness were asserted to be the factors that led the demise of the institution's prestige. Others blamed the incorporation of Politics, while some held the students themselves to be culpable of the institutional downfall.

Now, by the advent of the new administrations spearheaded by Ritchel N. Bacaltos, The Talisalites, have begun to see another hope, and their dying zeal for progress has been well renewed through excellent and quasi-democratic management exhibited by the current administrations.

It is highly probable that by the endeavor shouldered by Mr. Gullas, on the one hand, and the cooperation of Mr Ritchel N. Bacaltos, on the other, the said institution would likely thrive along its way. Inasmuch as these two stakeholders both share the same goals and optimistic visions all for the betterment of Talisay City College.

At this point, we don't know yet what is the inner motive of the political party behind their involvement in the affairs of secular academic institution. While we know that a given academic institution has to be freed from the constraints of politics, much less of religion, it is not necessarily evil, however, for a government agency to express its benevolence on the other. Logically, a person who is on the seat of politics can be a catalyst to actualize the visions of a primordial institution. But it can also be an edge for them in the maintenance of their political dominance.

I just hope that the help extended by Mr. Gullas is purely motivated by love and compassion for the Talisaynons and not a subtle means to retain its seat in politics.
