Spare Us Our Identity

SPARE US OUR IDENTITY
Written by Jezreel Madsa

Where culture/society changes, there the people's identity follows suit. Most of us, if not all, are fishing too much our individual identity from the changing tide of our dirty society. What is in vogue, we adapt. What is cool for many, we subscribe. The readiness of most people to embrace change, in my opinion, is likely spurred by one's considerable thirst to become click with the hippest trends the media creates.

I think the society and everything that dominates life tend to set itself up like a god of whose dictates we follow. When you do otherwise, you experience identity crisis. Inasmuch as dependency is ingrained with our nature as human. Yet by our sinfulness, we prefer to wear a rip-off identity rammed by society down our individual throats, instead of an identity that is seen in relationship with its Maker.

"Do not be conformed to the image of this world . . " ~ Romans 12:2

Alas! when your identity is too attached with this god. This should not be happening to those who profess faith in Christ. Brethren, we have our own identity in Christ, just as Christ has his own identity in relationship with His Father. As Paul Miller describes,

"[Jesus] doesn't try to 'find himself.' He knows himself only in relationship with His Father. He can't conceive of himself outside of that relationship."
